Wainscott Plumbing Co. does one thing: when a Hamptons house needs a plumber, we find the right one and put the two of you in touch. We do not sweat pipe, set a water heater, or pump a cesspool ourselves. The company is named for the hamlet, not for any business already working in it, and it is not connected to any plumber, heating contractor, or property that shares the name.

The February test

Most of what a Hamptons plumber does is answer for a house nobody is in. About 60% of the Town of East Hampton's housing stands empty in winter, roughly half of Southampton Town's, and more than 60% of Water Mill's, and the pipes in those houses still see a design temperature of 15.7°F. The insurance industry's answer is one number: keep the house at 55°F or drain the system, the same threshold a 2024 New York court case turned on. One insured home in sixty files a water-damage or freezing claim every year, and the outages behind the worst of them are not rare — Tropical Storm Isaias alone knocked out about 645,000 Long Island customers for up to eight days in 2020. A plumber worth calling here is built around that math, not a showroom.

What we need to know about a house

Before we send anyone, we ask what most services never do: well water or the Suffolk County main, because the two fail differently and one commonly runs iron; oil, propane, or gas, because that decides who touches the boiler; and whether anyone lives in the house, or it is closed up until Memorial Day. We also draw one line before the phone rings: some calls are really a septic installer's job, a well driller's, or a heating contractor's, and we say so first.

Who picks up

We check for a current Suffolk County master plumber licence, liability and workers' compensation insurance, local references, and a track record, because a company that is excellent at a Sunday-night burst pipe is not automatically the one for a six-bath remodel, and the reverse. One licensed, insured plumber who works your town calls you back, sooner for an emergency. Nobody else gets your number.

What it costs

Nothing, for homeowners. Participating plumbers pay us a referral fee for the introduction. You pay the plumber for the work, on their quote, and we do not sell your details to anyone.

Numbers we will not round

No Long Island plumber publishes an hourly rate, a service-call fee, or a winterization price. So the 2026 ranges on this site are national figures, a floor for reading a local quote, not the quote itself, with the source named next to it. When two guides disagree, as they do on a combi boiler by a factor of three, we print both rather than split the difference. Where nobody publishes anything trustworthy — Suffolk County's licensing fee, a water softener's going rate, what an outdoor shower costs to plumb — we say so instead of inventing a number. Wainscott Plumbing Co. launched in 2026 and is run from the East End. We are new and small; tell us if something here is wrong and we will fix it.
